  • By Midhun Charl, December 8, 2008 @ 3:24 am

Yup, Unicorn is really an absolute asset to the needs of indian conditions… doubt whether FZ could match it

  • By arun mohanan, January 7, 2009 @ 2:46 am

yeah when mileage comes in factor unicorn is best, but fz performance is different from unicorn.

  • By pancham, January 9, 2009 @ 1:25 am

you should stop rating honda unicorn r against FZ 16 dude. honda is no where near .

  • By john, January 9, 2009 @ 1:29 am

Honda sucks this time. They are still refining unicorn as unicorn r not at all bother about the rivals.
One advice :- Get CBR 250 RR to beat the race.

  • By nightrider, January 20, 2009 @ 2:10 am

Yeah, true….FZ is far better then Unicorn…better looking, performance, technology and much more!! But if the person is thinking ONLY about milage then Unicorn is considerable!!! But even though man, spend a little more i n gas and have a greate bike in your garage!!!

  • By Hanzalah, January 28, 2009 @ 3:50 pm

Hey… Unicorn is a cool Bike yar
    Fz Looks like a toy
but Unicorn best suites for all age groups in Indian conditions
smoother ride than any other bike
    medicated bike yar
anyways everyone has their own point of views….

  • By Murugesh, February 7, 2009 @ 4:24 am

    Dear Reader,

Unicorn is more better than others for more than 35 years age group.

  • By ravi, March 6, 2009 @ 4:38 am

can u plz quote between hond cbf stunner n fz
tell me which 1 is best????

  • By Ayyamperumal.R, March 7, 2009 @ 6:57 am

Dear reader i bought unicornafter complain through web 2 times after 4 1/2 months. i booked in sep 13 2008 and received on jan 22, 2009.
The bike is not as soomth as old unicorn and the gear shift also.
pick up ok. now i have done 850 kms once i checked and i gave 50.03 kms/litre drove at 50 to 6o kms on 4 way road. I had rx 100 earlier and cannot say unicorn that good on high way in terms of pick up during overtakes. i bought at madurai, tamilnadu after test driving hunk and extreme. Extreme is far better than unicorn in terms of pickup and the display console, style durability. but milage up to 45 kms. i selected unicorn for mono suspension and milage. i am sure at constant speed it gives 50 or both are same. Extreme is more silent than unicorn. GO TEST RIDE AND U WILL KNOW. iT ALSO HAS A PARK LAMP AND YOU CAN FIT SIDE BOX BUT CANNOT DO ANYTHING IN UNICORN. eVEN IN COLD JAN. MOSTLY IT WILL START IN ONE KICK USALLY IN THE MORNING I KICK AND START FOR FIRST TIME DON’T KNOW ABOUT EXTREME. fz 16 IS EXCELLANT BUT DIGITAL CONSOLE IS ITS WEAKNESS AND THE PRICE. ENGINE NOT AS SMOOTH AS EXTREME OR UNICORN.
Bajaj products are not bad but good with different technology and the leader in milage.

  • By Muhammad ali, March 9, 2009 @ 5:24 am

Dear friends lets see if ur very much interested about look fz16 is better than unicorn but in all aspects like comfort milage handling engine life resale value Honda is Global leader & let me tell u that HONDA bike is winning world moto GP Race past 4yrs. Wait till mid 2009 u will see HONDA CBR150 on indian roads. (149 CC Sports bike will kill yamaha, bajaj & suzuki )

  • By Shivakumar.R, March 17, 2009 @ 6:29 am

    Hi all!
Having read a lot about all the 150ers available in the market, I came to an assumption that Unicorn must be THE UNDERTAKER in corporate suit and the rest are all clowns as usual. For a long time, I noticed that people as well as the auto-magazines mull over the looks and top speed, but these auto-journos would accede that all other 150ers would run for cover when Unicorn is in fray in high speed runs. Looks are entirely individualistic. Though some cities have good roads, do they have disciplined traffic? At whatever the speed you ride on, there will always be an Auto-rickshaw or a pedestrian/dog await to cross you. There, a two-wheeler with good chassis and strong rear wheel stay may give good stability while braking hard. In this regard, I belive Unicorn is a well-sorted vehicle. Another important issue here is the position of gear lever. Many of the contenders to Unicorn sport somewhat rear-set arrangement. This will make even a modorately tall man to sit in Z like posture. Together with this nuisance, many of the vehicles come equiped with short and narrow handlebars. These handlebars would noway give good maneuverability. Overall, this set up would leave a feel that the rider is sitting as if on a western closet and holding a monthly magazine. The only minor crib with Unicorn may be about the conventioal cross-ply tyres that still come as OE. Honda could very well shod their two-wheelers with radial tyres soon. Despite the ‘Indian-fact’ that Honda dealers’ Quixotic attitude and Honda’s lethargic delivery period, I braved and booked an Unicorn last month. Of course! nothing can be 100% perfect, right!

  • By BikeSeeker, April 20, 2009 @ 5:37 am

    Hey Guys,
Fz 16 is 75,000 on road in Mumbai
Honda Unicorn, which costs you 68,000 on road.
    Just, 7,000 difference in cost…
Hence confused which one to grab…

  • By NIlessh I Sharma........, May 21, 2009 @ 2:05 pm

I am the proud owner of the new FZ-S (Black n Yellow)………..Now compared to the Unicorn…….i think my bike rules out the possibility of even thinking about buying a Unicorn……..The unicorn is more of a 45 yr old uncleji’s bike………Whereas the Fz’s are mean……..the engine is a powerhouse……..and the stability beats any other indian bike hands down……….i’ll tell u honestly the downsides as well……..Well most people do believe that the FZs will outrun a Karizma…..This is absolutely untrue……..the karizma’s is the fastest engine i’ve seen till date in Indian bikes……….Pulsar 200…..i think Fz beats that pretty well…….Now i’m talking about the Kings in the Indian Bike Segment………I think the Unicorn should not even be compared………I think its an insult to Yamaha……..Plus in terms of the mileage……..once u get ur hands on an FZ………u wouldnt care even if it gives u 10…………but yea wid an average of 40………i;m way too happy………..1000 bux of fuel in a month and i zip around entire mumbai……….And believe me the number of people who notice and ask at signals is incredible…….The FZ16 is now commonplace…….but The FZS is the way to go dudes………Ride on……….\m/

    Hi friends,

Very good debate on these two bikes… Good.. Individual experience depends on the place they live, traffic they have around their surroundings..also the age … At the first look yamaha looks amazing.. honda is famous for its engine.. my question is about seat…

the pillon seat in yamaha looks very small.. can we ride say my aunt with wide waist comfortably..?? and also is it possible to do a tripple ride on yamaha.. ?? I find problem here

  • By anup singh, September 27, 2009 @ 10:19 am

    hey maaannnn, honda is honda,
actually, FZ16 is ditto copy of suziki GSR 600, same head light same body.
only one mistake was done while copying, they forget to put silenser pipe under seat
unicorn is best, low fuel, no noise, just ride smoothly

  • By Hitesh, October 4, 2009 @ 9:40 am

i m 20 yrs old. i ride unicorn 2005 model. it ran 40,800 kms. still no problem in engine. as smooth as it was in 2005. no change in power & mileage. very low maintenance cost. gr8 comfort. But sometimes when i look at FZ-16 or FZ-S, I found my bike old fashioned & having lack of style. Unicorn has a very slim rear tyre compared to FZ. Honda must improve their market strategy about styling of indian bikes. Engine is no doubt excellent. But they must work on their styling.

honda unicorn rocs dude!! it has a great seat positioning unlike yamaha fz it is comfortable for long distances and of course it has great mileage 60+ and pickup that is perhaps better than a pulsar not sure about yamaha. engine too smooth also. as far as styling goes they have improved unicorn to some extent in the sense that it has got chrome logos in all black body work and engine looks fab!!

  • By sony sivanandan, December 8, 2009 @ 12:07 am

Though fz is very sporty looking and has a powerful engine, it lags behind unicorn in stability. It is lighter in weight and can’t give the thrill and smoothness at high speeds..

Dear Gents,… I am 56… Riding Bikes from 1971 onwards– Rajdooth, Yezdi, Bullet, 1st Generation (1986) Ind-Suzuki, & Yamaha RX100… Since 1998 I can afford a 4 wheel so am I doing since then. At 56, I have the mind of a 16, when thinking of bikes…. All these years there is not a single week, I skip looking into Indian Biking Senario.
Even now,… I am planning to buy Bullet Classic 350 for my Legentary use.

While My Son asked me to select a bike for his daily commuting in and around the city, I had no doubt about suggesting Yamaha FZ16. With 153cc engine, 14 BHP, and 135 kg weight, 50 KMPL is more than what U should expect from Auto engineers. One can’t earn anything without any sacrifice. For me, anything about 40 KMPL is acceptable. The bike is perfectly suitable for my son. For those who ask about milage,… I have an answer.. wait till U R 120 years old, then U can buy a bike that runs water as its fuel. But even if someone buy it for free, r u able to run it at that age. If you have the desire go ahead and buy Yamaha. After all in this fast world, why one think of keeping a bike beyond 5 -6 years. See me… I will only buy Enfield 350 Calssic for my use at this age. Because like me the Royal Enfield was born several years ago, Yet…one the road, in perfect style, power and reliability. If I get just 25 KMPL milage I will still drive the Enfield. Because, among others, I am determined to get noticed every time I scoot.

while comparing bikes… my verdict is…why should U compare a performing artist (Yamaha) with a pretty housewife (Honda) While the performer sings in concerts for her paid audians, the housewife sings for her children and hus, or for her own while cooking or ironing. Both are pretty, nice, understandable, maintain reverence and esteem high. One of them bad… no no never … both are admired by we men….For those still in confusion… I have my advise,. See brother… we Indians are choosy. We match horoscope to find most suitable wife. Even if some of the qualities as quoted in horoscope were not turned in over a period of time, we are defenitly going to love our wife, atleast after some issues. Please respect your bike like U do with your wife. Treat her like a family member. If U do that no Indian born (women) will quarrel with you. And this applies to all the bikes born to be ride by Indian men.

Both Bikes are really good. Fz is having a powerful engine compared with unicorn, but, while looking to some other parameters unicorn is really good for easy handling, mileage comfort and look. FZ is launched be4 since2 yrs. no one can tell the correct experience with that but unicorn launched b4 5-6 years. 99% owners having good experience with it, rest 1% with bad experience are dont know how to use a bike properly. thats y they got a bad result. Dont look the outer body and style. FZ is having weakest body like petrol tank and alloy footrest ect. It cannot afford a small hit. In our Indian road condition we shouldn’t use a toy like FZ. GO FOR A PRACTICAL BIKE LIKE “UNICORN”

    unicorn is the best

  • By Rahul, June 22, 2010 @ 4:05 am

I am having a Honda Unicorn bought at 2009. The bike is really cool …comfortable ride, load distribution is cool, good balance, breaks. It doesn’t come with digital tachometer. The major drawback of the bike unicorn is its chain sprocket. It is the worst chain sprocket in the world. You love Honda so much that you will stop listening to the bad comments one who has already experienced tells you. I have done the same mistake too. First six months you will enjoy the pleasure of riding. Then starts the chain problem..Once you hear the noise from the chain socket, consider your bike has lost its charm. The company authorized service centers does not have fix for this. They will just tighten the chain and hand the bike back to you saying the issue is fixed. Just after you leave the service center within 4-5 kms of ride the problem starts again. This is a recurring issue with no fix. Now the bike is one year old. Comfort level has decreased and the chain problem is still there. I have started researching on the chain issue. I am working in a MNC with more than 1000 employees and there are over 20+ unicorns. Unfortunately, I have recommended most of them to buy this bike which I later felt was a greatest mistake I have done. I collected the reviews from them and found they had the same issues. I had tried solving the issue by communicating with the service guys but finally they gave up and agreed that it is the chain sprocket issue which cannot be fixed. You have an option of buying a new chain sprocket set for around 800 rs. But, they wont assure you that it will stay without producing problem for at least 4 months.

The other issue is shock absorber..The suspension also starts producing noise after around 8000 kms.

I just request the company to provide a fix for this issue because Honda is the company we always loved. We want to see better things form you.

If anyone are experiencing similar issues please write to me at

    Honda Unicorn Fan

I have finished my 2 service back to back they resolved the trip meter problem, millage they told to keep same corroborator setting for 3000 km i agree this it must to be follow…

Bike is nice. Brand Name is super. Performance also Great, but still Honda need to give their Authorized Service center performance, service center just writing the customer complaint does’t resolve the problem. they are resolving the miner problem cleanly ( indicator, horn, meter problem) will resolve this small electronic problem finely, does,t know about mechanism of the Honda bike,

A good teacher only make their student as great genius

    Like this

Bike performance is in good mechanic’s hand NOT IN NAME OF THE BIKE OR BRAND

B4 going to buy bike get service guarantee from the showroom

With this information Honda does’t go down Yamaha won’t rise up

    just for information

    hi frndz
while gng thru dis cnversatn , more prefrs fz 16 ,it has a cool luk n bttr perfomance dan unicorn. .bt notice 1 thing dat our bike trends r changng, fz bcme out aftr 2or 3 yrs. .and it wil b hard 2 take da maintenence. .
I askd many of ma frndz n experts about a bttr bike, i heard many drawbacks on pulsar n fz. .bt wen it comes in da case of unicorn . .al has one openion dat , itz the bike for al needs . .bttr fuel eficency, handling ,cmfort, n maintenence. .and the main thing i noticed is dat, when we ride a 2005 unicor or a 2010 unicorn both have da same riding condtn . .we cant feel such a great thing in pulsar or fz . .i thnk no othr bikes can beat unicrn. . . .

Unicorn gives good average while Yamaha gives better pick-up. As everyone might be knowing that Pick-up and Average are inversely proportional (if Pick-up is good then Average will be less & if Pick-up is less then Average will be good).
Both the bikes have pros & cons it depends on individual requirement so dont be biased to any of this (Fz or Unicorn) Both are Japanese & both the bikes gives good performance !!

  • By Melvin, March 13, 2011 @ 7:18 pm

Both Bikes are best in in thier own league,
and the choice depends on individual preference like looks, comfort, power, smooth ride, service availability etc. who is goin to go from 0-60 in 5 secs, or utilize the complete 14bhp that the engine produce in our roads???

I dont know why some fools arguing abt “Yamaha and FZ rulezz as Valentino rossi rides for yamaha” – ask rossi to ride his bike in our potholed roads, and ask him to get his bike serviced in our service center.. i bet he will quit Yamaha.

Then comes suckers chanting “unicorn.. uncle ji bike..” for these retards big tyres, some plastic, and alloy is what bike means for them.

For me both bikes are best in class, it is these suckerss badmouthing the two great bikes that are the real … in short
